The Almeida brings a welcome scirocco of French cuisine to a rather groovy part of north London. Overseen by the team from Conran's Michelin-starred Orrery, Almeida offers intensely flavoured dishes from the heart of French regional cuisine. The dining room is a grownup place, though children are welcome, with warm woods and colours, white table cloths and the satisfying ching of crystal. French waitstaff zip noiselessly between the tables, translating the menu, offering suggestions, and serving the perfectly-timed food with, well, perfect timing. Try dishes like the oysters and sausages, or the trolley of terrines followed by the trolley of puds, or even a classic dish like the Coquilles St Jacques in the provencal style. The wine list has been carefully chosen to complement the robust cooking. Charming.
